## Challenge

The safety of tenofovir-based PrEP during pregnancy is critically important for HIV prevention in South Africa, but real-world data on PrEP use patterns specifically during pregnancy had not been characterized in this population.

## Solution

Target RWE's HIV team analyzed real-world data from South African women to characterize patterns of tenofovir-based PrEP use during pregnancy, including initiation, continuation, and discontinuation relative to gestational periods.

## Impact

Documenting real-world PrEP use patterns during pregnancy in high-HIV-incidence South African women provides evidence for HIV prevention program design and adherence interventions targeting pregnant and periconception women.
