## Challenge

Readmission following COVID-19 hospitalization was an important but poorly understood clinical outcome in early 2020, and no large-scale US study had identified the clinical risk factors associated with readmission and post-readmission mortality.

## Solution

Target RWE researchers analyzed hospital chargemaster data from 297 US hospitals to estimate readmission rates and identify clinical and demographic predictors of readmission among 29,659 COVID-19 patients discharged alive.

## Impact

Identifying that AKI, cardiac complications, and chronic diseases predict COVID-19 readmission provides clinicians and health systems with actionable evidence for targeting post-discharge monitoring.
