Objective Disease Activity Assessment and Therapeutic Drug Monitoring is Lacking Prior to Biologic Therapy Changes in Routine Inflammatory Bowel Disease Clinical Practice: TARGET-IBD
Challenge
This is the DDW 2020 oral presentation version of the objective disease assessment manuscript (Row 6). Earlier conference dissemination of the finding that approximately one-third of IBD patients do not undergo objective disease activity assessment or TDM prior to biologic therapy changes.
Solution
The TARGET-IBD registry was analyzed to characterize the proportion of IBD patients with biologic dose changes or discontinuations who had objective assessment or TDM in the preceding 12 weeks, presented as a DDW 2020 oral abstract.
Impact
High-visibility oral presentation at DDW 2020 of the objective assessment gap finding accelerates awareness among gastroenterologists and sponsors of the quality improvement opportunity in IBD monitoring practices, laying the groundwork for the subsequent BMC Gastroenterology manuscript.
